About
Jason Solowsky is an all-around composer whose career spans decades and more than 100 films — a writer equally at home with a full orchestra, a dramatic film cue, or a single piano building from stillness to climax.
His roots are in Boston, where he studied at Berklee College of Music, earning his degree in film scoring and composition. From there he went west to the famed film scoring program at the USC Thornton School of Music, run by Buddy Baker — where his teachers were the legends of the craft: Christopher Young, Elmer Bernstein, and David Raksin. That lineage — melody first, drama always — runs through everything he writes.
The film career that followed is the foundation of his name: more than 100 scores and contributions, including Between Worlds with Nicolas Cage for Lionsgate and The Freemason with Sean Astin, with releases through Lionsgate, Sony, and Universal — and, in 2026, music featured in The Dresden Sun with Christina Ricci.
The path was never a straight line, and the résumé shows it: years spent as a guitarist, and a turn singing backup for Barbra Streisand — at the 2001 Emmy Awards and on her studio recording of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ — both came before the composer’s chair. His film and orchestral music is written in full score, and his goal has always been the sound of live instruments — real players, real rooms.
Today the same dramatic arc drives his orchestral albums and singles and his neo-romantic piano works — one long career, still being written. He is a BMI writer; his publishing entity is JRSBACH MUSIC.
“Jason’s score is Marvelous with a capital ‘M.’ He has a natural musical ability, and a gift for melody which reminds me of people like Bernard Herrmann and people like Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner and Danny Elfman.”
“I can’t say enough about the wonderful Jason Solowsky. He’s very versatile. He can do everything from the purely orchestral to the more modern.”
“Jason is remarkably talented, and a filmmaker’s best friend when it comes to helping out a film with an amazing score. I am inspired by his instincts, professionalism and patience.”
